Ship Hector Passenger Descendant: Isaac Matheson

This Ship Hector passenger descendant would start one of the oldest continuous manufacturing businesses in Canada, still in operation in the year 2023. Isaac Matheson began his company in the year 1867 which began as the Acadia Iron Foundry in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

Born in West River, Pictou County in the year 1814, Young Matheson became an apprentice at the Acadia Foundry at Albion Mines (Stellarton). It was here that coal had been discovered in the year 1798 and large-scale production began in 1827 when British interests operated the General Mining Association.
